Bill de Blasio claims tall buildings in NYC are “worst emitters” of greenhouse gases … huh?
By Ethan Huff // Jul 12, 2019

To help stop "global warming," New York City is rolling out all sorts of new legislation to ban things like hot dogs and red meat, and possibly even the city's iconic skyscrapers, which Mayor Bill de Blasio hilariously claims are the worst emitters of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2).

A key tenet of New York City's "Green New Deal," which is different (but not by much) from the laughably ridiculous Green New Deal put forth by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), the alleged "polluting" nature of NYC's existing glass and steel skyscrapers is something that de Blasio hopes to tackle simply by prohibiting any more of them from being built in the future.

During a recent interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program, de Blasio, a pro-infanticide Democrat, claimed that banning all new construction of glass and steel skyscrapers in NYC will somehow reduce citywide greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent – which to him automatically means that it has to be done, no matter the cost to the local economy.

"We are going to ban the classic glass and steel skyscrapers, which are incredibly inefficient," de Blasio proudly announced, pretending to be educated about the subject.

Also known as the "Climate Mobilization Act," de Blasio's Green New Deal also involves forcibly converting all of the city's electric use to "clean sources," which reportedly will mean having to import foreign energy derived from Canadian hydropower.

NYC is also introducing new laws that will mandate the recycling of all organics; force drivers to pay added fees during times of traffic congestion; and completely phase out the use of single-use plastic utensils all throughout the city.

Bill de Blasio emits CO2 every time he exhales another breath of hot air

While it might be fun for de Blasio to toss around the prospect of banning all skyscrapers in order to "save the planet," real human beings recognize that this is hardly a viable or sustainable solution, especially from an economic standpoint.

It's also important to note that building materials like glass and steel emit absolutely nothing that could ever be considered a pollutant. Even if CO2, for instance, actually did contribute to "climate change," NYC's skyscrapers aren't releasing it.

On the other hand, the electricity that powers electric and hybrid vehicles, which leftists routinely hail as being cleaner than combustion engine cars because they're supposedly "zero emissions," still comes from highly-polluting, coal-fired power plants – which means they're arguably much worse than any of the skyscrapers that exist in NYC.

Still, de Blasio insists that they've got to go, though his Office of Sustainability (OAS) has since released a statement backtracking what de Blasio himself claimed during his MSNBC interview.

"I want to call out that it doesn't mean that buildings can't use glass anymore," stated Mark Chambers, the director of OAS.

"If a company wants to build a big skyscraper, they can use a lot of glass if they do all the other things needed to reduce the emissions," he added, insinuating that de Blasio didn't even really know what he was saying when he gleefully suggested that NYC skyscrapers will soon become a thing of the past.

NYC is still, however, planning to punish New Yorkers for eating processed and red meat by charging them "dividends for the health of future generations and the planet," according to Chloe Waterman, the program manager of Friends of the Earth's (FOE) Climate-Friendly Food Program.

"We applaud Mayor de Blasio, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and all of the advocates who made today's announcement possible," she added.
