POTUS Trump lies all the time, Democrats tell us. He’s never honest. He’s always stretching the truth. He’s incapable of grasping facts.
To be fair, the president has his moments when it comes to veracity, but as for the allegation that he’s incapable of being honest, that’s a bridge too far.
That said, one Democrat who just happens to be the newest darling of the establishment media has just admitted that facts don’t matter anyway — it’s the thought and the intention that counts.
In an interview with Anderson Cooper for “60 Minutes” that aired Sunday, freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said in response to charges that she plays fast and loose with facts when it comes to how much things cost, she said people who say such things are “missing the forest for the trees,” The National Sentinel reports.
“One of the criticisms of you is that your math is fuzzy,” Cooper said in regards, specifically, to a claim she made recently that the Pentagon has wasted $21 trillion over “accounting errors” — money she says could fund two-thirds of her quest and the quest of other Leftist Democrats to implement a “Medicare-for-all” universal healthcare run and financed by the government, though Democrats were supposed to have already fixed all of that when they passed Obamacare.
Cooper noted that claim earned “four Pinocchios” from The Washington Post’s fact-checker. (Related: Ocasio-Cortez speaks like an ignorant high school student, and thinks like an economically illiterate communist.)
“Oh my goodness,” she said. “If people want to really blow up one figure here or one word there, I would argue that they’re missing the forest for the trees.”
“I think that there’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct, than about being morally right,” she added.
“But being factually correct is important,” Cooper countered.
“It’s absolutely important,” she said. “And, whenever I make a mistake, I say, ‘OK, this was clumsy,’ and then I restate what my point was. But it’s not the same thing as the president lying about immigrants. It’s not the same thing at all.”
Deflecting criticism of what she has actually said back onto POTUS Trump is so — high school. And it’s also unwarranted.
The Pentagon example was not the only time that Ocasio-Cortez has been monumentally wrong about an issue. As The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra notes, “she has repeatedly shown a lack of understanding on many important issues, including how she plans to pay for the $40 trillion in far-left big government programs she supports, which she failed to answer during the interview.”
More recently, she accused Republicans of believing that a video of her dancing with classmates, while she was a student at Boston University, was “scandalous” when in fact the video was posted by an anonymous person who has since deleted the account.
In reality, a number of conservatives spoke out against anyone who was critical because it was an innocuous, even entertaining, video that had zero to do with politics.
Freshman GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas, a former U.S. Navy SEAL officer who nearly lost both eyes to an IED explosion in Afghanistan in 2012, noted that Republicans aren’t concerned about her dancing — just her policies.

“No one thinks this is scandalous,” he wrote in response to a tweet she sent indicating the opposite. “Dance away (was actually pretty good). What is scandalous is increasing income taxes to 70%,” he added, which she has said she wants to do so ‘the wealthy pay their fair share.’
