Twitter bans pro-life ads but approves Female Genital Mutilation promotions
By Vicki Batts // Sep 26, 2018

Twitter is under fire for approving, and promoting, an advertisement for female genital mutilation. With the company's history of blacklisting the pro-life message, the promotion of female genital mutilation is a huge slap in the face. The Left claims that being pro-choice is about women's rights and that supporting access to abortion is integral to female reproductive health -- and yet, FGM lies in direct opposition to both of those things. Indeed, it would seem that women's rights only matter to the radical Left when it fits their agenda, otherwise, there's room to compromise.

The World Health Organization considers FGM to be a violation of human rights for girls and women on multiple accords. And yet, there are multiple instances of Democrat politicians and other members of the Left wing advocating for the procedure. In March 2017, Senate Democrats in the state of Nevada were reportedly "tripping over themselves" to vote for a bill that would legalize FGM. Now we're seeing advertisements for the procedure circulating on Twitter.

Twitter runs promotion for FGM

As Breitbart reports, Dawoodi Bohra Women for Religious Freedom (DBWRF), was recently allowed to promote a tweet intended to make FGM, called“khafz” by the group, look like a safe, everyday procedure.

The post read, "My daughters have also undergone khafz, and they’re growing up as perfectly as other children of their age. As a mother, I can never do anything to harm them.” The promotion also featured a video testimony which further claimed that the procedure is "healthy" and part of their "religious rite."

According to the WHO, "there are no religious scripts prescribe the practice" but "practitioners often believe the practice has religious support." The organization also states, "FGM has no health benefits, and it harms girls and women in many ways. It involves removing and damaging healthy and normal female genital tissue, and interferes with the natural functions of girls' and women's bodies."

Many Twitter users were outraged to see such an advertisement in their feeds, with some noting that the promotion violating human rights should be against the company's community standards.

Twitter is now saying that the ad's approval was an accident. After massive backlash for the post's promotion, a Twitter spokesperson stated the ad “was approved in error and the decision was immediately overturned by our teams.”

As Breitbart notes, however, the post is still up on DBWRF's Twitter feed. Further, the group's feed features multiple posts intended to promote and normalize the practice of FGM.

Given Twitter's penchant for blacklisting conservatives, especially those who promote the pro-life message, this is highly hypocritical. The promotion of FGM is just as harmful to women as the procedure itself. Under the "politically correct" liberal dogma, daring to speak against the promotion of FGM is basically racist -- but under the same deranged leftist views, a Christian woman who promotes pro-life messages is a threat to women's rights.

Once again, the Left echoes George Orwell's 1984: Torture and mutilation is healthy, slavery is freedom and propaganda is truth.

The fact that the DBWRF page still stands, while conservatives like Elizabeth Heng have been censored for criticizing oppressive regimes, is proof of the fact that Big Tech's arbitrary community standards are only enforced when they see fit -- or rather, when it fits their agenda.
