A Nevada newspaper acquired a copy of the official report that the military had prepared for internal use regarding the "Tic Tac" incident. The executive summary covered many details of the UFO encounter that were not seen in the infrared video.
If the government report is to be believed, the UFO was not the only unknown in the area. There was something just as strange in the waters of the Pacific Ocean – and the two unknowns were apparently meeting up.
The incident spanned two weeks and took place off the coast of California, the summary stated. During this span of time, U.S. warships intermittently spotted multiple Anomalous Aerial Vehicles (AAVs). (Related: Intelligence means technology: SETI expert says they’re actually searching for “technosignatures”.)
The government report detailed how the Aegis cruiser USS Princeton – one of the most advanced warships that ever put to sea – reported that its radar could not lock onto the AAVs. On one such occasion, it directed nearby F/A-18 fighter jets to investigate the nearest mystery objects.
The AAV resembled the popular mint. Its sleek body was estimated to measure 45 feet (13.7 m) in length. It showed no hints as to how it was generating the lift energy that aircraft normally needed to fly.
The report said the AAV spotted the F/A-18s and took evasive measures. The report noted that the object was able to change altitude from 60,000 feet to 50 feet in a matter of seconds, a feat that no aircraft in existence could accomplish.
One of the fighter pilots involved in the incident spotted something strange beneath the AAV. He said the shape looked like an island or reef that was barely covered by the sea.
As the jets pulled away, the pilot noted that a football field-sized patch of water beneath the AAV was frothing. The water was being disturbed as if something was coming to the surface, like that visually impressive scene from Star Trek: Into Darkness when the Starship Enterprise breached the waters of an alien world.
"The disturbance appeared to be 50 to 100 meters in diameter and close to round," the government report paraphrased. "It was the only area and type of whitewater activity that could be seen and reminded him of images of something rapidly submerging from the surface like a submarine or a ship sinking."
There was a U.S. Navy submarine in the vicinity. It did not report hearing any disturbance on its sonar.
The report surmised that the AAV might have been meeting up with the massive underwater object spotted by the fighter pilots. Furthermore, both the AAV and the unknown underwater object demonstrated capabilities superior to the U.S. military forces present.
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) funded an Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program from 2007 to 2012. Taking place three years after the "Tic Tac" incident, the secret program looked into reports of unidentified flying objects.
In 2017, the Pentagon announced that the defunct program was unable to prove that there were aliens visiting the Earth. In 2018, the DoD released a trio of videos that detailed an encounter between U.S. fighter jets and a supposed UFO.
