Yesterday, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper appeared on The View, where both he and host Joy Behar stated that even though the spying did occur, President Trump should be happy about it because it was meant to protect the country.
“They were spying on, a term I don’t particularly like, but on what the Russians were doing,” Clapper told Behar, which is obviously just a backdoor way of saying that Trump’s team was surveilled for information related to Russia. “Trying to understand were the Russians infiltrating, trying to gain access, trying to gain leverage or influence — which is what they do.”
Clapper continued, “With the informant business, well, the point here is the Russians. Not spying on the campaign but what are the Russians doing? And in a sense, unfortunately, what they were trying to do is protect our political system and protect the campaign.”
When Joy Behar questioned why the President wouldn't like that and noted that he “should be happy,” Clapper agreed, saying, “He should be.” (Related: Obama’s spying on the Trump campaign included the use of secret national security letters reserved for the most serious threats.)
But, even as more and more information continues to come out regarding the role that the FBI (in partnership with Barack Obama, to a large extent) played in surveilling Donald Trump and his team, some people are defending the FBI – even some that consider themselves to be conservative republicans.
There was a time when most conservatives across the country felt as though they could trust GOP Rep. Trey Gowdy to help them expose the political Left. As of late, however, Gowdy has been making some comments that appear to be inconsistent with his usual anti-liberalism mentality.
As he explained in a recent interview with Fox News, Gowdy is “even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got.” He added that the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election (which is now being commonly referred to as “Spygate”) has “nothing to do with Donald Trump.”
With respect to Mr. Gowdy, he is wrong – Spygate has everything to do with President Trump. From the very beginning, this investigation into so-called “Russian collusion” has been about tearing down the President of the United States. Even though they may sound convincing when they claim that they are “deeply concerned” about interference from foreign nations in U.S. elections and are just trying to preserve our democracy, this is just a mask that they use to conceal their true intentions. (Related: The once-curious media that exposed Watergate is now playing the role of co-conspirator in covering up Obama’s spying on Trump.)
When President Trump was elected in November of 2016 and defeated “the anointed one” Hillary Clinton, he became public enemy number one. From that day forward, the liberals committed themselves to doing everything in their power to destroy him and ultimately preserve the statist agenda that they have been slowly advancing for decades. The Russia investigation and Spygate are simply the vehicles that the liberals are using to achieve this goal. Nothing more and nothing less.
