Many conservatives now consider the mainstream media to be an appendage of the democrat party, and rightfully so. It’s a rather simple yet effective relationship: The Democrats set the agenda (which includes higher taxes, lax immigration laws, more restrictions on firearms, etc.), and the liberals in the media twist and distort the facts in order to advance that agenda.
A perfect example of this is how the political left responded to the school shooting that occurred late last month in Marshall County, Kentucky that resulted in two students dead and 18 others injured. Immediately following this tragedy, the liberals did as they always do when some lunatic with a gun kills innocent people – they amped up their calls for more restrictions on firearms.
Specifically, one of the talking points that the liberals decided to run with was the idea that the shooting in Marshall County was the 11th school shooting of 2018, which was obviously nothing more than an attempt to essentially scare people into accepting their gun control agenda. There was only one problem – that figure that they were so eager to send across the airwaves is actually a skewed statistic from the Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety.
As the Washington Free Beacon explained, “Nearly all of the incidents included alongside the Marshall County shooting bear little or no resemblance to that shooting or other well-publicized school shootings, like those at Sandy Hook Elementary or Columbine High School.” In other words, events that were nowhere near as extreme as Sandy Hook or Columbine were mixed in with serious tragedies, and that’s how the liberals are able to say that there have been 11 school shootings so far in 2018. The Washington Free Beacon went on to list the school shootings of 2018, and after a quick glance, it becomes obvious that some of these incidents were far less tragic than the left would have you believe. Some of these incidents include:
- An incident on January 9 where a man fired a BB gun at the window of a bus, which resulted in no injuries
- An incident on January 10 where a student in a criminal justice club mistook a real gun for a fake gun and fired at a target on a classroom wall, which resulted in no injuries
- An incident on January 9 where gunshots were fired from somewhere near (but not on) the campus of Cal State San Bernardino, which struck one of the school’s building without injuries
- An incident at Winston-Salem State University, whereby a student was killed at a nightclub on the Wake Forest University campus
- The shooting and murder of a 15-year-old at a Dallas-area high school on January 22
- The shooting that occurred at Marshall County High School that resulted in two students dead and 18 others injured
Obviously, the last three incidents on this list put together by the Washington Free Beacon are extremely serious, while the first three incidents are not. It’s like trying to compare apples to oranges – but that doesn’t exactly matter to the political left, who are hellbent on doing whatever it takes to separate the American people from their firearms. The Democrats and the mainstream media working together to scare the people into surrendering their liberty really isn’t anything new, yet sadly, it is often extremely effective, particularly when it comes to those among us who are uninformed and uneducated. That’s why it is so important to know the facts – the Second Amendment of the Constitution is, quite literally, at risk of becoming a thing of the past.
