Partisan hack Hirono says any GOP lawmaker opposing impeachment trial witnesses is “complicit in a cover-up”

In case you haven’t noticed, Democrats and their propagandists in the “mainstream” media don’t make arguments or use cogent, well-reasoned logic; they use buzzwords and talking points — which, of course, isn’t the same thing.

They’re using a lot of them in their quest to frame the narrative involving the sham impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Following their hasty impeachment of the president in mid-December — before they would allow a federal court to rule on whether the White House had the constitutional authority to block certain subpoenaed witnesses from testifying — Democrats immediately began calling for “more witnesses” in the Senate trial.

‘Can’t have a trial without witnesses,’ they argue. ‘What’s a trial without witnesses?’

Well, first of all, a Senate impeachment trial isn’t a trial in the normal sense. According to the Constitution and the few instances where a president has been impeached, the Senate ‘trial’ consists not of deposing one witness after another on a ‘stand.’ It involves so-called ‘House impeachment managers’ whose job it is to present their case to senators, who act more as a body of 100 jurors.

The Senate’s job is not to investigate the impeachment allegations but rather only to hear the evidence the House gathered and then make their decision whether to vote to impeach or acquit the president based on the case presented.

But in calling for more witnesses, Democrats are being disingenuous — surprise! — because they are trying to convince Americans a Senate impeachment trial is the same as any other courtroom trial when it isn’t (and they know that).

So far, most Republicans are resisting Democratic calls for witnesses, which has led Democrats to adopt a new buzzword to describe that resistance: It’s part of a “cover-up,” a phrase they’ve obviously polled and believe will have the desired effect of heightened suspicion of the process by most Americans.

This week during an interview on CNN, little-known Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii claimed that any GOP senators voting against turning the impeachment into a clown show replete with a conga line of “witnesses” will be engaging in a “cover-up” of the president’s actions. (Related: Dems admit impeachment not just about overruling the 2016 election, but rigging the 2020 election, too.)

There is nothing to ‘cover up’

“Anytime I hear [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) say they’re following the Clinton playbook, I want to say give me a break. This is a massive departure,” she said.

“During the Clinton impeachment, there had been a lot of witnesses, a lot of depositions taken, lots of evidence produced. None of which occurred in this instance, with President Trump stone-walling every request. So I’m shocked,” she continued. “But, you know, nothing that Mitch McConnell does to speed up this trial and make it harder for the process to be fair surprises me anymore.”

“My expectation is to not even allow what came through on the House side with their impeachment process as part of the record is really, once again, you know, an effort to stonewall this whole process and Mitch McConnell and the president are on the same page on this,” she claimed.

“It is a huge cover-up. And Mitch wouldn’t be bringing this resolution to the floor if he didn’t have the caucus, his own caucus behind him. So all of the Republicans are going to vote for this kind of a truncated unfair process is pretty much complicit, and I would say in the cover-up,” she added, according to Breitbart News.

First, there is nothing to “cover up;” the House impeachment articles did not even cite a single “high crime or misdemeanor” Trump is alleged to have committed.

Also, the president’s phone call on July 25 to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which a whistleblower claimed Trump sought a “quid pro quo” — an investigation of Joe and Hunter Biden in exchange for U.S. military aid — is public, thanks to the White House’s release of the call transcript. In it, the president never threatens to withhold aid.

Hirono, like the majority of Democrats, can’t argue the facts so they have to make up their own using poll-tested phrases and keywords.
