Man posing as a woman found GUILTY of sexually assaulting a mentally disabled teen
By Laura Harris // Apr 22, 2024

A Wisconsin transgender has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl with learning disabilities, and is currently under investigation for strangling a man to death.

"Sabrina" Hetke, a 35-year-old transgender who now identifies as a woman, was jailed twice for sex offenses in 2007. But despite authorities warning that he has a "high probability to re-offend," Hetke was still released from prison in 2016. He immediately went back to prison, but was released again in November 2020 after completing his latest sentence for sexual assault.

Just five months after his release, he bullied and killed Vydale Thompson-Moody, a 28-year-old man with learning difficulties. Thompson-Moody was found dead in Hetke's house the following morning with a 15-foot electrical cord underneath him and marks to his neck and forehead. (Related: Half of trans-identifying biological male inmates in Wisconsin have been convicted of sex crimes – so why are they allowed to move to women’s prisons?)

"I killed him. God can't bring him back, but I can because I'm the devil," Hetke confessed.

However, it was only after Hetke assaulted a 16-year-old girl that Hetke was arrested for murder. In July 2021, Hetke followed the teenager home from a gas station in Waukesha, threatened her with a knife before sexually assaulting her. The incident led the victim to jump out of her bedroom window in fear.

The authorities had no choice but to re-interview witnesses and gather additional evidence after the assault. Police re-arrested Hetke and charged him with first-degree sexual assault with a dangerous weapon and second-degree sexual assault of a mentally disabled person. Hetke was also charged with homicide for killing Thompson-Moody.

A hearing for the Thompson-Moody case is set for April 30 and Hetke's sentencing will be on June 7.

Persistence of Thompson-Moody's mother led to the arrest of Hetke

Serena Thompson, the mother of Thompson-Moody, has played an important role in the arrest of Hetke.

Hetke was initially arrested on a preliminary charge of first-degree intentional homicide. Yet, following a week in the county jail, Hetke was released under administrative discharge.

When Thompson learned that Hetke was released without any filed charges, she started making phone calls and sending direct messages to the witnesses of her son's death over social media. Thompson also tracked down the friends of her son on social media to have someone to talk to.

Fortunately, someone helped Thompson get in touch with one of the witnesses, a woman identified only by a first name and last name's initial in the criminal complaint.

According to the criminal complaint, the witness revealed that Hetke had expressed a desire to kill Thompson-Moody for disrespect. She recounted how Hetke had looped a cord around his neck and witnesses intervened as Thompson-Moody struggled to free himself. This unsettling sequence repeated until everyone in the house retired for the night. The witness presumed Thompson-Moody had departed after she drifted off, but she discovered him unresponsive the following morning.

Thompson recorded the phone call and handed the recording to the police. However, the prosecutors still took two months to file homicide charges, which in turn, led to another assault.

Until the last minute, it looked like the prosecutors were still trying to favor Hetke when he was given two examinations to check whether he could plead not guilty due to mental disease or defect. Fortunately, both examinations found he was sane.
