J6 committee report called into question after Nancy Pelosi takes blame for Capitol security failures
By Cassie B. // Jun 13, 2024

After footage emerged of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stating that she “takes responsibility” for the security failures on January 6 during the Capitol riot, Republican lawmakers are once again calling the official January 6 committee’s report on the day’s events into question.

In the video, which was taken on January 6, 2021 but had not been released until now, Pelosi is seen acknowledging responsibility for the lack of readiness on the part of law enforcement when the Capitol was mobbed.

The video was shared by a House Republican panel in a tweet on X, and it shows Pelosi being evacuated from the building on the infamous day and talking to Chief of Staff Terri McCullough about the way the evacuation went down.

She tells McCullough: “We have responsibility, Terri. We did not have any accountability for what was going on there. And we should have. This is ridiculous. You’re going to ask me in the middle of the thing when they’ve already breached…that, should we call the Capitol Police? I mean the National Guard? Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?"

McCullough appears to respond that the Capitol security forces thought they were ready, to which Pelosi answered: "They clearly didn’t know, and I take responsibility for not having them just prepared for more."

Several House Republicans point out that this clip goes against Pelosi’s insistence that the riot was Trump’s fault.

House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Georgia) tweeted: "Pelosi’s J6 Select Committee spent taxpayer’s money chasing false political narratives and using Hollywood producers for their ‘investigation.’ Her admission of responsibility directly contradicts their own narrative."

Loudermilk also shared his thoughts with Just The News, No Noise, saying that the footage made him question the entire report.

“It is surprising to me that she did say, 'Hey, I am taking responsibility for this,' then the select committee spends $18 million, trying to say that it was Trump's responsibility that the National Guard wasn't there and that the Capitol was breached," he said.

J6 committee report was a "political hack job"

He added that the report contains numerous inaccuracies, and his committee is trying to go through each one. While he conceded that they don’t have the power to retract it, they do want to submit their own report highlighting disparities and other contradictions to support their belief that the report is unreliable.

“It was biased, it was a political hack job, and that the American people and the history books should not take this as is any factual account of what happened that day," he added.

Loudermilk has long maintained that the committee, which was led by Democrat lawmakers, withheld important evidence from the American public. The subcommittee claimed that the J6 select committee cherry picked the information it released publicly, only sharing the information that aligned with its desired narrative. They also accused the J6 committee of failing to turn over important data before the new Congress was sworn in, saying they even went so far as to delete certain files containing interviews with witnesses and other documents.

Another lawmaker who thinks the video footage goes against the J6 committee’s report is Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), who insists that we still haven’t gotten to the bottom of what really happened that day.

"And Nancy Pelosi clearly in that (video) acknowledges that she failed as a leader, which is an important admission. They didn't do anything to expose that, in fact, they destroyed evidence and have been working to cover it up," he pointed out.
